About La Fresca
La Fresca is a community-led network for the local entrepreneurs and small businesses that have anchored Globeville, Elyria, and Swansea for generations. We are rooted here; we know our community; we are the community, working together to strengthen our neighborhoods for the good of all.
We started by listening to the neighborhood
Before La Fresca was a network, it was a question: to strengthen our neighborhoods, what does our community need, and what do the small businesses in GES actually need? What the owners themselves would say if you asked them at their own counter. So we went and asked, business by business. Then we brought the same question to the neighborhood. We surveyed neighbors across GES to see if they shared what we believed: that strengthening our local economy, easing the cost of living, and improving access to fresh, healthy, affordable, culturally relevant food was worth working toward. They did.
Antes de ser una red, La Fresca era una pregunta: para fortalecer nuestros barrios, ¿qué necesita nuestra comunidad y qué necesitan de verdad los pequeños negocios de GES? Lo que los propios dueños dirían si les preguntaras en su propio mostrador. Así que fuimos y preguntamos, negocio por negocio. Luego llevamos la misma pregunta al barrio. Our Network Navigators do exactly that. They sit with small business owners across Globeville, Elyria, and Swansea, and they listen. What we hear over and over: rising rents, language barriers to capital, distributors that will not deliver here, the technology gap (owners with no website, no social media, no way to take a digital payment), not knowing about the grants, tax credits, and city programs already out there, insurance and licensing confusion, and the isolation of running a business with no one to turn to. Beneath all of it sits a real fear that the neighborhood our families built is being priced out from under us.

Stronger together
La Fresca is a community-led network supporting local entrepreneurs and small businesses of every kind in GES. We meet each owner where they are, at the counter, in the kitchen, over a cup of coffee, and we bring resources within reach: tax resources, grant and loan research, help with funding applications, and permit guidance.
La Fresca es una red comunitaria que apoya a emprendedores locales y pequeños negocios de todo tipo en GES. We help with the reading. We walk through the paperwork together. We are there for the follow-up calls when they need us. Our Network Navigators translate between institutions and the neighborhoods, connecting businesses to grants and city funding so more of those opportunities take root here in the neighborhood.

None of our businesses have the time or the staff to pursue these resources alone. Together they can, and the more businesses we bring into the network, the more weight we carry for one another.

Protection through digital promotion
Big chains have marketing departments. Family-owned small businesses do not. La Fresca exists to close that gap. We produce the photos, the videos, and the captions, and we publish them on La Fresca's social media and website to put these businesses in front of the neighborhood. They get seen online without spending money they do not have, and without having to become content creators on top of running a business.
Las grandes cadenas tienen departamentos de marketing. Los pequeños negocios familiares no. La Fresca existe para cerrar esa brecha. Producimos las fotos, los videos y los textos, y los publicamos en las redes sociales y el sitio web de La Fresca para poner a estos negocios frente al barrio. But it does not stop at marketing. We help owners build a real digital presence, connect them to funding they did not know existed, help with taxes, link them to the city departments that assist them at no cost, and build a network so no one has to figure it out alone.

Every post, every video, every introduction is one more way to keep a family business rooted while the pressure to displace it keeps rising. That is what preventing displacement looks like. A well-known, well-supported business is far harder to push out than one with no one behind it.
